Iran’s final fixture at the eminent sportive event was competed against Indian rivals today morning at the Hsinchuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City.
The Iranian side bagged their sixth victory at this year’s William Jones Cup by clinching a 71-56 victory over their Indian opponents.
Except for the loss in the second quarter (17-21), the Persians had the upper hand all through the game (15-10, 24-19 and 15-6) to chalk up the overall win.
Iranian basketball players had thrashed Taiwan B, the US representative and Egypt in first three showdowns though they later conceded two defeats against South Korea and Taiwan A. However, the Iranian sportsmen returned to action by prevailing over the Philippines and Japan over the past two days.
South Korea is slated to take up Taiwan A while Japan will face the US representative Sacramento as final day matches at the sportive event after which the overall standing of Iran will be declared.
A top-level international basketball tournament of FIBA Asia, the 2016 William Jones Cup started in Taiwan on July 23 and will conclude today on July 31.
The Iranian outfit is preparing for the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge to convene in Tehran on September 9-18. The tournament will serve as the first step in determining qualifiers for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.
The 2017 FIBA Asia Championship, which will be the 29th continental basketball championship in Asia, will bring together teams from both FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania for the first time.
